Live Status

Overview

What if real-time music activity lived directly inside someone's contact card?

Live Status explores music sharing inside the iOS contact experience, a subtle way to express what you're listening to without needing to post about it.

Concept

Spotify's Friend Activity, with the visual personality of Apple's Contact Posters.

The goal was to make music feel present, personal, and discoverable within everyday communication, native to the Contact Poster, not layered on top of it.

One decision

Music says a lot about your mood so privacy needed more nuance than on/off.

I designed states like Live, Just Finished, Quiet Hours, and Hidden to give people control without making the experience feel heavy. One small action “Add to my Queue” turns passive presence into a lightweight recommendation moment.

Outcome

A five-screen interactive prototype, built around Apple's interface patterns.

The concept could work as a native iOS feature, an Apple Music extension, or a privacy-focused alternative to Spotify Friend Activity.
